Crafts with a Repurpose

Admittedly, most of my crafts probably belong in the “Pinterest Fail” category. Nonetheless, the need to create and lead a re-purpose driven life runs strong and henceforth, I have not failed…my success is just postponed.

Old Flatware Chest + Paint = Shot Glass Storage Case

We went through a phase where we would buy a shot glass on our traveling adventures and then displayed them on the back of our stove.  It was awful – oil would splatter on the glasses and dust would collect on them and my husband wouldn’t always rinse them before serving a shot (GAG!) and then they would fall off the stove and break (don’t get me started about the one from Uruguay – like when am I going back there!).  Anyway, one day while rummaging with my sister at a community garage sale, I bought a silverware chest for $3 and turned it into a shot glass storage chest.  I just wish I had found this silverware chest before lifting up an ‘official’ shot glass display case at another garage sale that day and swinging it around to show my sister, only to have the glass fall out and slice my knee open and shatter to the ground.  (I thought I had taken several before pics of the 70’s paneling-looking box, but apparently not).

Candlestick + Bowl = Fruit Bowl

So maybe I’ve watched too many episodes of “Keeping up with the Kardashians”, but I love how they regularly decorate with the simplicity of black and white.  Hence my tribute to the Kardashians…a fruit bowl.

Raised Candle Plate + Wine Corks = Trivet

This was during my wine cork project phase (who am I kidding, that phase will never end since my husband and I regularly create an endless supply of wine corks), but I envisioned using this at one of the many dinner parties I would host in our home.  However, pool parties don’t necessarily beckon the call of a trivet, so this craft sits in our cupboard.

Banana Hook + Paint & Embellishments =  Banana Hook Upgrade

So this little project probably sat in my closet for about 5 years, so now I need to convince my husband that we need a banana hook and how the past 5 years were so complicated with bananas just lying around. What are we?! Undisciplined monkeys?! I will hear no evil.

Shadowbox + Wine Corks = Family Heirloom

I’m unsure if I made this for one of early anniversaries or my husband’s birthday (no worries, he doesn’t remember either), but as a tribute to our now family name, this hangs above him in his office.  It’s a “B”…if you can’t tell.
